Chalk Space Learning was founded by Laura, a primary school teacher, in 2021, with the vision of empowering children to take control of their own learning journeys. Her passion is to support children in discovering fun ways of learning and to nurture inner self confidence and a positive mindset to believe in their ability to achieve. Empowered children have the courage to take risks in their learning, which becomes a powerful tool, not only as a learner but also as a valuable life skill.

Sadly in the current education context, the pressures of the curriculum and timetable, along with the diverse range of needs within a class can make it a challenge for some children to thrive and keep up with the pace of delivery and fully understand the concepts taught. Other children can easily become disengaged from learning as they are not necessarily being challenged enough. These factors, among others, can start to negatively affect a child’s well-being and confidence.

Laura obtained a BSc (Hons) degree in Psychology and then completed a Masters in Education and Development. She has spent over 20 years working with children and young people in a variety of roles. These have ranged from youth and community work, supporting young people in the care system to live independently and in mentoring, advice and guidance roles for young people and their families who faced significant barriers towards their learning. After having her own children, she re-trained to become a primary school teacher by taking a PGCE with an early years specialism and has taught in schools in the UK and internationally.
